We are taking out my mother in law for dinner. I also bought her a card from our girls, one from my husband and I. We will put a ten dollar gift card in it, kmart. Then a small gift from our girls, its a personal salad container that fits all in one box, by rubbermade, to take to work.

I also like gifts I can reuse and have a salad container similar to that (mine is Tupperware) that I use all the time. I absolutely LOVE it and use it weekly. It is a very nice gift, but not too personal. If she doesn't have allergies, you may want to get her a small container or bouquet of pretty flowers. I went to a "home improvement store" near me and bought my mother-in-law a beautiful flowering hanging basket plant. It was only $15. I did see some bouquets of flowers at the supermarket that were about $6 or $7 dollars. You might want to get her something pretty to go with the something useful.

My mother's bday is coming up & I don't know what to get for her. She's really picky. She doesn't like bath or spa stuff, or chocolate & foods, or tacky cheap gifts. I'm lost.... I live a few states away so anything I send would need to be cheap to mail.
That's a very nice thought - I would looove to go visit my mother, but I'm in the military & close to giving birth to my daughter. Military won't let me travel so far.

my mother always said,if I spend time with her that is the best gift I could give her.since you live so far away you should plan to go and see her,and take her out shopping to eat,and something she might like to do. It sounds like you don't see her much.you only have one mother you should see her as often as you can.my mother is gone now,and I miss her so much,and think about her everyday.
