Christmas gifts for dad?

Q. My dad is hard to buy Christmas gifts for because he claims, as an adult, he really only likes big things such as a motorcycle. But he also added he likes things he wouldn't usually buy for himself. I already got him a nice bottle of whiskey and now I don't know what else to buy him. He is rather cynical and isn't into technology really despite the fact that he is an engineer. For example, he would rake leaves instead of using a "leaf vacume." He also isn't into football. He says "He would rather watch his own kids play." We do go backpacking but he already seems to have every gadget there is! He loves our dog, which is a german shepherd.

Any gift that the couple can use together and is wedding related is great! It really depends on your budget too...Here are some ideas:
If the couple is having a classy wedding you could buy them a gift certificate for dance lessons.
If they drink, you could get them a decanter from Tiffanies.
If you have a picture of the two of them, you could bring the photo to a local artist and have him paint the couple's portrait.
Couples tend to have tension during the wedding planning process so buying them tickets to a show, a gift certificate to a nice restaurant, or a gift card to a local adult arcade can help them enjoy being together without talking about the wedding.

My brother just got engaged. There is an engagement party in a couple weeks for the immediate families. Most of us (me, my husband and 2 kids included) are standing up in the wedding. I have never been to an engagement party. Are you supposed to bring a gift? If so, what kind of gift is good for an engagement party?

No gifts are required nor expected for an engagement party!! This is asked at least twice a week. Answer stays the same. An engagement party is simply for everyone to congratulate the couple, to learn about wedding details such as date and place, and when one of them is from out of town, a time to meet all the relatives/friends/close neighbours. If you are the type of person who hates showing up empty-handed, do as you would for a hostess gift - flowers, bottle of wine, box of candy.

I hardly spent any money on my bf of 6 months last xmas, but he was so grateful for his gifts: 3 pet fish for his fishtank (i dont really understand that hobby, but whatever makes him happy, right?), a bag of our favorite candy to enjoy together, a framed picture of the 2 of us (a really simple silver frame because guys dont usually like showy stuff) and a mix cd made myself.

you could also try making him a present. for my bf's birthday, i made him a blanket. you could also make him something good to eat, like cookies or something.

you say he likes soccer, so maybe a soccer ball ornament might be cute, but not very useful as its only used once a year. clothes are always a good option, because guys are typically really easy to shop for, not picky. a hat or a nice shirt are easy to pick up.

i've used most of these tips up already... i'm pretty stuck for this year, but i do plan on surprising him with a trainride to the city to ice skate and stuff. the element of surprise is always fun, and its what he loves to do, although ill probably fall down a lot...

that actually sounds like enough. most boys get upset when you spend money on them. You don't wana make him furious. just mad. For my boyfriends birthday I got him two camo seat covers, i made him dinner, and a cake, o and i got him some shot glasses. that came to a near total of 85 dollars. He was mad at first that i even spent money on him. But he shut up as soon as he put he put his seat covers on! he loved them! the important thing is not to get him as many gifts as possible. but to get him gifts from the heart. josh wanted camo covers so bad. he pretended like not having them didn't matter, but i knew they did. he would say man i love my jeep. but...i knew he meant the seat covers. it was a gift i knew he would love. There is no UK "Gift Tax" for transfers between people: either on the receiver or the donor.

There may be something in NZ, but I don't know their rules.

EDIT: Yes, most gift cards can be reloaded. Note: there is usually an extra charge to add money to a gift card and some gift cards require that the money be used in a particular time frame or they will start deducting from the balance.

At our shows, whenever we do gifts like that, usually we'd do a card or even a letter made personal to the person you're giving it to thanking them and so on. Then you could get an arrangement of a few roses and give each of them one with a cute ribbon around it and some candy or chocolate. That would make it sweet, personal, and more than just a card, maybe even include a couple of pictures of them or the cast or anything memorable that they would find to be a nice memory. For the director, a group picture of the cast in a personalized frame would be nice, you could get a cheap one with a big border and have the entire cast sign it. And, when you know the person, there is always something special that you know that they would appreciate that could require VERY little money and just a little work and a personal touch. I love taking little photo frames and making one that says that they were the producer/costumer/etc. for the show you're doing. Just be creative and personal, it doesn't have to be expensive. :) If you can spend more than the $10 to $15 it would cost to do the above, maybe a gift card. You can order discount gift cards at www.restaurant.com. You only pay 40% their face value ($10 gift card for $4, $25 for $10) It's up to you. Also remember that everyone can pitch in to get bigger gifts like the gift cards and stuff like that. :)

Good Groom's Men Gift?? Cheap?

Q. I'm 13, I get 5 dollars everytime I clean the kitchen. I can get about 300 dollars by the end of Christmas. My dad wants a massage, and my mom wants a mani/pedi and haircut. You can take them out to a restaurant. Or Take Grandma and Mom out for a spa day (Mani- Pedi) then come back and take the guys out golfing or curling or something.

If the store that it is for sells credit for you cell phone you should be able to.

I got a gift card for a grocery store for Christmas. I went to the grocery store and use the gift card to buy minutes for my prepaid cell phone. I did not know if it would work for that either. But as long as there are no restrictions on the card you should be able to buy what ever you want to with your gift card in the store it is for.

You know how sometimes when you post a gif, you have to click on a gray box to see it? How can I post it so that the box isn't there?

gifts can only show up on the dashboard if they are Tumblr hosted.
To tumblr host,
1. just open a text post like you're going to publish something
2. on the top right corner of the there is something that says "+ Upload Photo"
3. Click that and upload your gif.
4. When uploaded, the image will show up on the post box. Right Click over the gif. and hit "copy image URL"
4.1. the url should look something like this: http://media.tumblr.com/blahblahthispartdoesntmatter.gif
5. now go have fun inserting your gif using that URL in any tumblr post feeling confident that it will not show up as a grey polaroid.
