Why wont my sears gift card work at Kmart?

Proud_Mili

I had 2 sears cards and one worked at Kmart but the other wouldn't.. Any Ideas why? I called the 800 automated number on the back of the card and it had a balance of 67.41, but it wouldn't work maybe because its an older card?
Sears and Kmart merged some time back.. making them more or less the same company.

Answer
It really should work. Why don't you call the manager of the Kmart and ask?

Will my Sears Gift Card work at Kmart?

mukwonago5

I have multiple gift cards to Sears. Will Kmart accept them as well, being that they are the same company (Sears Holding)?

Answer
Yes indeed they will. Since Sears and KMart did merge now KMart gift cards and Sears gift cards will both work there.

PLÁCIDO DOMINGO PUTS JOHN PAUL II POETRY TO music

Tenor Presents "Amore Infinito"

By Carmen Elena Villa
VATICAN CITY, NOV. 28, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Pope John Paul II's poetry is "incredible, profound and complex," according to the well-known tenor who has put the texts to song on a CD that was released in Italy today.
Plácido Domingo joined with Bishop Giampaolo Crepaldi, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, to present his latest recording, "Amore Infinito" (Infinite Love), during a press conference in the Vatican press office today.
The CD includes duets with Andrea Bocelli, Vanessa Williams and Katherine Jenkins and an international version will be released in January.
"This unique initiative brings together two art forms, poetry and music which, brilliantly combined, have produced an album," Bishop Crepaldi said.
"Listening to these songs, so magnificently interpreted by Placido Domingo and the London Symphony Orchestra, brings back the memory of John Paul II and of an entire life, frequently marked by dramatic episodes, lived with a passion for God and for man. What is the secret of this 'Wojtylian' poetic, which he translated into so many poetical texts?" asked the bishop. "For John Paul II everything begins with God's 'yes' to man, everything arises from God's plan of 'infinite love.' God's 'yes' to man means 'yes' to his dignity, to his authentic needs. It means 'yes' to the world [...] and to everything that is beautiful, good and just in life."
The texts of Domingo's songs "cover many subjects: family affections, work, war, homeland, etc, but all of them," the prelate affirmed, "are inspired by God's 'yes' to man, by the infinite love of God."
Artistic project
Domingo explained that the idea for the album arose from his last encounter with the Polish Pontiff. He recalled how he offered a concert for peace in Italy in 2003, in which he sang a prayer for peace written by the Holy Father.
"It was the last time I saw John Paul II," the tenor said. "I told him, 'I would like to sing your poems.' And he answered me, 'why not?'"
The singer explained that as he selected the poems, though most of them regard spiritual themes, he was drawn to those on topics such as liberty, love and family.
Thus, he said, something that began as a "more spiritual project later became a more artistic project."
Domingo contended that though there is no need to spread the fame of John Paul II, there was a need to make known "this truly important part of his life."
The tenor recalled that he had the chance to be close to the Pope at various times in his life.
"I carry in my heart the moment I saw him with the children in Mexico, when he was in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe," he said. "To see how he welcomed them -- he looked like an angel -- with enormous tenderness and patience, speaking in Spanish, singing with them ... this has certainly touched me."
Domingo plans to promote the CD with 10 international concerts.

New York Christmas Gifts?

Tiffany

Hi! My college boyfriend & I are going to be separated over Christmas Break, so we've decided to send things from our hometowns to each other as Christmas gifts. The problem is, I can't think of anything distinctly New York that I can send. I know New York is SO amazing, so I can't figure out why I can't think of anything. I just feel like everything I want to send him is either too touristy or too generic. =( Please help!

new york gift.?

C G

I am looking to buy a New York gift item for my cousins. I am not sure of the exact age because we havn't visited in a long time, because i live in new york and they live in the south where i used to live and wish i could go back to, one is 10-12, one is 7-8, one is 4-6, and one is 7-10. The others are all in their late teens to late 20's. I dont want anything that says "I love new york", and i only have about 30-50 dollars to spend in total because i only get a $5 allowance every week. I know its a little cheap but i am 15, too young to get a job, and no one needs a baby sitter or anything. I also do not live in new york city. i am not "necisarrily" looking for new york city stuff just things that you can get in new york and no where else. new york city stuff is a possibility i would just not like to revolve around the big apple. Including the four younger ones there are 10 people in total. Thank you.

Answer

Gift idea for a 65 year old?

KingCharle

My father is turning 65 soon and I'm not sure what to get him for his birthday. Shouldn't be toooo too expensive, but I can afford something that costs more than 20 bucks. My dad has a habit of not doing much with his presents so I think something he can use or consume would be best.
Any ideas/recommendations?
Thanks for the great ideas so far. My father is already retired but I wanted to play around with the idea of him entering 'senior citizen' status (joke around with this).

My dad isn't really into cars or sports stuff. He does like technology (gadgets), politics (to a degree), food and other cultures.

Great beach gift ideas!?

loveasif

So my boyfriend and I are going down to Florida Friday and my best friend (GUY) has never been to the beach and I want to bring him back something that is nice to look at...like a jar with beach sand, a few shells and ocean water in it. But that's a little plan jane, or is it? But whoever i pick if it's a good idea 10 points

Answer
I love your idea! I also have another one. How about getting a shadow box? If you check the weekly circulars in the newspaper they usually have 40-50% coupons. Take some pictures at the beach of the water, shore, birds, yourself...place one or more of the pictures in the shadow box. You can add shells & sand either by gluing or just placing them in the shadow box. You could get a little glass bottle & put the sand in that before placing in the box. You can also get a piece of scrapbook paper with some beach scene or water to place behind your picture(s). You could either put this together yourself, or if he enjoys crafts; let him put it together himself. It's so thoughtful of you to think of your friend. Have fun at the beach!

gift ideas for boyfriend leaving for basic training/army?

just_a_lit

what are some good gifts that i can get my boyfriend who is leaving for basic training in a few weeks in the army?? i want it to be thoughtful, and showing that i care, but its so hard to think about, cause i just keeep crying. anyone have idea, or experience and know what i can get for him? thankyou

Answer
Honestly, there isn't much you can give him before he goes. Maybe take a nice picture of yourself and give it to him, write a letter as other people have stated, something small like that. In basic he isn't going to get to use much of what he owns.

From my experience you should save the gift for when he graduates from basic training. He'll be off to AIT then and have a bit more freedom than in BCT. Possibly get him an iPod, some electronic (if he's into that sort of thing), take him out to a nice dinner (he'll love that after having to eat army food all this time).

You really should just look at who he is and what he likes, and get him something that he'd like for his BCT graduation.

Here's what I did. My husband (he was my fiancee when he was in BCT) is a complete dork and a hopeless romantic (shh don't tell him I told you ;D ). He always joked around that it wasn't fair I got to wear a ring to show I'm engaged but he got nothing (I know him better...it did bother him, because he wanted to let everyone know he was taken, too. like I said, big hopeless romantic dork lol).

So I already knew his ring size and what type of rings he likes. While he was gone I went shopping around for a ring that he would like. I got him his wedding band early and gave it to him after his graduation. I think that was probably the best thing I could have given him, he was just incredibly happy. He's never forgotten to wear it since then.

While he's in basic training you should write him as much as possible, and send cards. He's going to miss you, and it's great for them to get mail. My husband got the most mail in BCT and a lot of guys were jealous of it.

Just think about who he is and when he'd like. If you get him something that he really likes he's not going to look into it too much. He's just going to like it. Most men are simple like that, they don't really think about the "is this a thoughtful gift she gave me" thing. If they like it, they like it.

Don't cry too much. I know it's hard to be without him, but he will come back. Keep yourself busy while he is away and watch the time fly.

Should I leave gifts for teachers?

chasvanblo

I'm planning to return to the Substitute Teaching-world this coming new school year.
I'm also planning to do something uncalled for for the teachers for whom I will substitute.
%I'm thinking about GIFTING each individual teacher with an inexpensive gift - as my appreciation for her efforts and energies inside the classrooms and as an inspiration to call me again when she needs another substitute.
I started browsing at one of my local shopping malls to gain ideas of WHAT / HOW and even IF I should pursue such an endeavor. - I spotted a few small items at BED BATH AND BEYOND(r) that might offer such appreciation. %A small bottle of antiseptic hand lotion - if this will not cause possible skin irritation; or even HAND SOAPS for use during the day. During the 8 years, earlier when I subbed, I noticed that a bottle of liquid antiseptic was on every teachers' desk. - Knowing how drying that this can get; especially during the colder months, I hope to offer something teachers can use and appreciate.

How might each teacher appreciate and use these gifts I hope to leave - in her box, rather than on her desk because leaving it on her desk will leave these open for her students to use!.....which is not my intent.

Answer
It's not really necessary to leave a gift for the teacher. Remember that the teacher his/herself does not choose you... subs are basically called down the line from a list by the school or the Board of Education office until one says yes. And someone such as a janitor could take/misplace/break the gift you leave. However, if you'd like to do this, your idea seems like a good one. Gold Bond makes a hand sanitzer that is non-drying and moisturizes hands.

Help! I need to buy a birthday gift for my aunt who is turning 60? Any ideas!?

BlueEyes

Think Betty Crocker meets June Cleaver! My aunt is wonderful and I a stumped! We are planning a big dinner and I need to get the perfect gift. Money is always the issue so I unfourtunatly cant afford to spend more that $40 or $50. I need something nice...maybe a new gaget, kitchen/ house stuff etc...Please help!

Answer
most people at 60 have all the houshold items they want and need. and these gifts are not personal or memorable.find something she likes to do, like eat out and get a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant. a favorite hobby. perhaps you have a talent or a hobby and you could make something for her she would love that ! but, be creative. the presentation of the gift or even gift certificate is important. a nice gift bag, with some fresh flowers tucked in or something like that.does she like to stay in / go out. movie tickets, pizza gift certificates ? a small, inexpensive pendant, just from you for her, for a keepsake. most women have chains, so you dont need to buy one. a certificate for a pedicure ? if you love her dearly, you will know what she loves, and this will bring you to the gift.

60th birthday party ideas?

fvfv81

Answer
As baby boomers enjoy life well into their retirement years, Sweet 60 doesn't have to mean over the hill.

---Invitations---

Along with the where, when and RSVP details, use appropriate greetings for the front cover of the invitation indicating the specific party theme and a headline reading "Sexy Sixty", "The Big 6 - Oh!", Sweet 60", "or "Sixty is Nifty!"

---Party Theme Ideas---

The "Over the Hill" theme has always been easy and popular, but you can also opt for a theme centered around the celebrants favorite leisure activity. A sports theme party or a luau is always fun, or take a trip down memory lane with a tribute to the decade in which the birthday boy or girl grew up, such as the 50's or 60's.

A surprise party may take a little extra work, but with a bit of planning it can provide special excitement and lots of happy memories.

---60th Birthday Gift Ideas---

Gift-giving at a 60th birthday party is simplicity itself - whether it be 5 dozen roses, 10 six-packs of beer or soda, or 60 lottery tickets.

Create something more personal by arranging a memory book or scrapbook filled with favorite photos and keepsakes. Ask friends and loved ones to e-mail special birthday wishes well in advance to be included with the photos, or print-out the e-mails and pin them up separately on a decorated bulletin board.

---Party Food---

You can work in the Sweet 60 theme with another great idea: substitute the birthday cake with 60 individual cupcakes, served on a tiered party tray. Also try to include foods that everyone will enjoy, including low salt or sugar-free drinks for those on dietary restrictions. As with any party, self-serve is way to go, making for easy mingling around the buffet table.

If in doubt, skip the "lame" prune juice and Jello. The food should be centered around the guest of honor's favorites!

Review for Summer Institute for the Gifted.?

Victoria

So I'm attending the second session UC Berkeley Summer Institute for the Gifted in a month and I'm a bit nervous. Is this program legit? No scam or anything? What are the people like? Teacher qualifications? Curriculum? I've gotten a bit nervous lately, so I really would like to know.

Answer
SIG is a program run by NSGT, which is a nonprofit. The program is not sponsored or in any way affiliated with UC Berkeley. SIG simply rents facilities from UC Berkeley to host its activities.

SIG information can be found at http://www.giftedstudy.org/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Institute_for_the_Gifted

Do I have to register my visa gift card in order to use it on Ebay?

Twilight P

I have an ebay account and I read some other reviews that you can't use a visa gift card for paypal. So do I have to register the gift card on the paypal website first and then use it on Ebay? Will it work that way.
Oh and is paypal.com safe?

Thnx :)

Answer
you would have to go though PayPal and yes paypal is one of the safest sites
also you should read this article it explain the problem of using gift card with paypal
Using Visa or American Express Gift Cards on PayPal

One of the most popular gift card questions online is whether one can link prepaid gift cards like the Visa gift card to a PayPal account. The short answer is Yes and No.

Now, the long answer: Yes, it is possible to link a prepaid gift card like the Visa or American Express gift card to a PayPal account but for this to happen, you need to pray and hope that PayPal does not require you to go through their Expanded Use verification process. To better understand why, you first need to be familiar with the process for linking a credit card to a PayPal account. When you link your credit card to a PayPal account, PayPal will attempt to confirm your address with your credit card company. If the credit card company is not able to confirm your address, then you may be asked by PayPal to complete their Expanded Use enrollment process in order to activate your credit card.

Expanded Use verification means PayPal will charge your credit card a small about. Next to the charge will be a unique, randomly generated 4-digit Expanded Use code. If you have online access to your credit card activity, the charge and code will appear on your card activity in approximately 2-4 business days. If you do not have online access, you must wait until you receive your statement in the mail to get the 4-digit code. If you are adding a debit card to your PayPal account, your 4-digit Expanded Use code will be printed on your bank statement next to the charge.

Once you get the 4-digit code, you have to return to your PayPal account to enter the code per instructions from PayPal. Once completed, and PayPal confirms that you entered the correct code, you will now be able to use the card for PayPal transactions. The Expanded Use verification process is designed to protect you against fraud by verifying that the person attempting to use the credit card actually owns the card. PayPal will later credit the amount charged to your card to your PayPal account.

Now, here lies the problem with using prepaid or bank issued gift cards. If PayPal is unable to verify your address with the gift card issuer, then you may be asked to go through the Expanded Use process. Since most prepaid gift cards do not issue monthly statements or provide online access to gift card transactions, it will be impossible to complete the Expanded Use process. Also, it is not a good idea to call the credit card or gift card issuer to get the 4-digit Expanded Use code. If PayPal receives a complaint from your card issuer that you called them to get the 4-digit code, PayPal will close your account permanently.

So, the first step to attempting to use a prepaid gift card on PayPal is to make sure the name and address (billing address) on your PayPal account matches the name and address on file with the gift card issuer. If you just purchased your prepaid gift card, call the card issuer and add your name and address to the card. If your information (name and address) has changed since you registered your card, call the card issuer or go online and update your information before you use the card on PayPal.

Once this is done, you just have to hope that PayPal is able to successfully verify your address with the gift card issuer. If they are able to verify your address, then you are all set. If they cannot verify your address with the card issuer, then you probably will not be able to use that gift card on PayPal.

Can you suggest some great Christmas gifts for under $50 ?

Signilda

I have a huge Christmas list and lots of teenagers on it. Their tastes are so expensive but my budget is so so small. I want to impress them and not have my gift go to waste. thanks

Answer
1) Gift cards - Teenagers are so picky about what they like. Trust me, they would prefer to choose their own sweater than have you guess about their style. When I was a teenager, this would have been just about the best gift! Unlike adults, most teenagers will not care that gift cards are not "personal" like a traditional gift.
2) Gift baskets - Buy a cheap basket and create a themed gift. For instance, a gift card to BlockBuster, a DVD or two you know they will enjoy, several bags of popcorn, and mini-cans of their favorite soda would be a fun themed gift for a teen.
3) Lotions/candles from a chain store like Bath and Body works would be great gifts, particularly for a female. If you buy them from a chain, s/he can exchange them if s/he would prefer a different scent.

surprise 50th birthday ...gifts welcomed wording?

Krystal

My two younger sisters and I are throwing my mom a surprise 50th bday party in a couple of mnths. Its not going to be anything formal. We are renting a pavillion (shelter) at a local park and going to be throwing a type of bbq. She loves that type of thing so it works perfect. My mom is one of those amazing moms that NEVER ask for anything for herself but me and my sisters would like people to bring gifts (including gag gifts...shes got a great sense humor) . We are making the invitation ourselves and I was wondering how we should word it. I plan on putting it all the way at the bottom of the invitation. Maybe if someone had some type of quick poem. Im not very good at stuff like that. Thanks in advance :)

Answer
Your mother surely deserves every good thing life has to offer, and she no doubt will be thrilled with the surprise party you and your sisters are giving her. Unfortunately, however, there really is no decent or polite way to request gifts in a birthday party invitation, not even when it's in honour of someone like your mum, who never asks for anything for herself.

Rest assured, however, that generally, when people are invited to a "Birthday" party, they automatically assume they are to bring a present of some sort. At your mother's age, people often DO give silly "gag" gifts, but you can also expect she will receive things like manicure gift cards and other "pampering" gifts.

You can also expect invitees to call one of you to ask what your mother might like for a present. They might ask what her favourite colour is, or if there is a certain perfume she particularly fancies. In such cases, answer them honestly, emphasizing how very thoughtful they are to even THINK to give her a gift.

Yes, I know, that last sentence probably made you wonder if I'd read your question right. The thing is, when one is hoping or fishing for gifts, one isn't supposed to be obvious about it. To avoid offending invitees by looking too eager for gifts, focus instead on their 'thoughtfulness' in even considering a gift, which in turn will ironically make them all the more sure to bring one.

Meanwhile, do keep in mind that regardless of any gifts brought by guests, this surprise party will be something your mother never forgets. It is the thoughtfulness of YOU kids that may well be the greatest gift of all on her 50th...and beyond.

Need help on anniversary gifts...?

Lucky14643

On Saturday it will be my 2 year anniversary with my boyfriend. And I have no idea what I have as a gift. I' don't want to buy him anything because Christmas is next month. Last year I took a picture of us together and used it as a background and put all of our favorite songs on there..I made it look really nice and he liked it a lot. Then for valentines I made him a slide show of us and now I have no idea. I'm not very good when it comes to writing lovey dovey cards either...haha. I've already given him pictures of us in a frame...what are some creative things you guys have done for your anniversaries..or just anything in general?

Answer
Anniversary Gift
How about making a pie?
Here is a quick one, takes may be 15 minutes to make:

Ingredients
2 Packages of Mori-Nu Lemon Creme (powder)
1/3 of a box of Graham crackers

Use a pie form, e.g. a glass plate, may be 8" or a bit larger.

Pie Crust
Oil the glass plate, e.g. olive oil.
Crumble the Grahams of one single package of Graham crackers over the plate (there are three single packages in a box). Crumble well (the smaller the better) and distribute the crumbs well, also up the rim. This will make your quick crust.

Pie Filling
Remove water from 1 extra firm tofu package and scramble tofu, place into blender.
Add fresh water to cover the tofu.
Blend for about 2 minutes or longer to create a very creamy paste.
Add 1 package of Mori-Nu Lemon Creme (a low fat pudding mix).
Blend until smooth.
Place the creamy mass into a pot and add another package of Mori-Nu Lemon Creme. With a whisk broom whisk filling until very smooth. The second package of Lemon Creme will not likely be mixed well by the blender, since the mass gets too thick.

You could fill the pie filling as is into the pie form on top of the Grahams, yet, I prefer to boil it on low settings for about 3-4 minutes after bubbles break surface (stir constantly) since there is starch in the Lemon Creme, and tofu should be heated.

The Pie
When done, fill the pie filling on the Graham crumbs, distribute it evenly. Cover all the crumbs along the rim with the filling, otherwise it may look "Crumbly." With a table spoon make half circle indentations in the surface of the filling from the rim to the center, one next to the other, to form a petal like pattern, looking as if the pie was bought from a store. Let cool covered in the refrigerator for a few hours or half a day or a day. The moisture of the filling will soak into the Grahams. Cut into 6 or 8 sections. To serve the pie pieces, use a triangular spatula as used for cakes, since the crust will be soft.

Variations: Mori-Nu Chocolate Creme, or Vanilla Creme.

You may want to add whipped cream or soy cream (TrueWhip or Soy Whip) for an extra treat.

Enjoy.

Help Me?! Friendship-gift problem?!?

Cynthia

Today my dad and I went for a walk and we talked about stuff, you know the usual, funny videos and food and all that. Somehow we landed on the subject of Birthday Gifting. And since I'm a nice person, I really like to give people nice gifts like nice watches (not those really fancy ones but you know what I mean), a big pack of lip gloss, a great book, etc. I do not feel obligated to give people gifts, I just sort of want to and it's kinda complicated feeling.

Then my dad said, "Do your friends give presents to you?"

And then I realized, most of them don't. Only a few do. My friends are always like, "omg its my bday party better bring me a gift!!"

I have a summer sucky birthday, which no one ever remembers. and when they do, they are always like, "OH! I forgot! Happy Bday!"

Then my friends will promise to give me a gift....*oh no my mom couldn't take me to the mall*
But the thing is, I like giving gifts with thought. My friends will give me a half-eaten pack of goldfish for a present and then demand that i give them my hot cheetos cause they gave me a "gift."

I don't know what to do. I feel....i don't know. But if I don't give them a gift, it makes me feel bad and not a good friend. What should I do?

P.S. if you give me a stupid answer like "whatever find new friends..u r stupiddd", It is NOT funny and I W-I-L-L report u!

I also do not think *you give me a gift so i give you one back because we're friends* is right for friendship, but I am just saying.
lol i dont give them that nice a gift, i might have been exaggerating! hehe i like to give people music cds and all that stuff. not like a fancy necklace for 50 dollars! D:

Answer
Either stop giving them really nice gifts ( take it down a level) or tell them what you told us in the question. Ask the politely to try to give you nicer gifts because that's what you're doing to them.

Any ideas for friendship gifts?

infamous_e

A small group of 4 (including myself) are best friends and have been since we were in Kindergarten, and actually we are more like sisters. Now at 35ish we get together once a year to celebrate our friendship. I would like to get gifts for all four of us that are the same, but represent our friendship (a ring, neclace or bracelet?) Something subtle, yet classy, that isn't showy, but possibly something that only means something to the four of us. I have found jewelry that is usually for two people, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
It depends on how much you actually want to spend on them. You could by them something as a whole that you could all do together, like go on a trip or by tickets to you favorite singer or band. Or you could get something for each one of them. Try going to www.gifts.com It is a great website that asked you questions about the person you are getting the gift for and asks questions about their personality until it comes up with the perfect gifts. i am sure you will find something on there to get for them. Good Luck!

Birthday Gift Ideas For Mum?

iloveyou

My mum is turning 51 soon, i want to buy her a few good gifts (atleast 3) but i only have $100 to spend, anyone have any good gift ideas? Thanks.

Answer
If you create your own, $100 is more than enough to make your mum a stunning gift basket! Base your gift basket around something you know your mum really enjoys or likes and buy lots of goodies that match that theme. When it comes to the "basket" part of your gift, grab an inexpensive gift bag or gift box or flower pot or tray, or anything really and save the bulk of your money for the gifts themselves. Why not tuck in some lovely homemade gift certificates too?

Check out my website where you'll find heaps of ideas and instructions :)

Good luck and have fun!

My Vanilla Visa gift card keeps declining my purchases?

Livia Diam

I just bought the gift card yesterday, I've checked the balance on the Vanilla Visa website and it says I have the full amount still on my card. I've used Vanilla Visa all the time, this is the first time I had this problem. I'm poor and rarely able to buy anything nice for myself, I can't afford to let $25.00 go down the drain without some compensation. According to their website the only way I can get in touch with a rep. is by snail mail. Anybody have any suggestions?

Extravagant gifting. Should I keep the gift or respectfully decline? HELP ME!?

Jessa

My friend, Mark, took me out to dinner Tuesday night. We are just friends, but there are hints that he would like to be more; such as, he wont let me pay for anything even though I always try, he always picks me up, and he never invites anyone else to join us even though most of my friends are much closer to him than I. Anyway, as our dinner is coming to a close, he tells me that he has a Christmas gift for me. A holiday gift hadn’t even crossed my mind... Sure, we’ve gone out for coffee once, and we’ve gone out to dinner for the purpose of celebrating both of our birthdays as friends, but that is the extent of our history. This is, also, our senior year in college, meaning that I have very limited gifting funds to go around and we only just met this semester. I told Mark that he was very sweet to have thought of me, but that he shouldn’t have. He then puts two boxes on the table. To my astonishment, there on the table in a white apple box sat a pink iPod Nano along side another box for a watchband to secure the Nano as a smart watch. I was floored. He had it all ready, and asked me to put it on. He then went on to inform me that he put some music on it that he thought that I would enjoy. He also took the time to program in the number of the US consulate in Hong Kong should there be an emergency during my travels (I’m visiting a friend who lives in HK over winter break). Now, there is something else you need to know about Mark. He comes from a VERY wealthy family, which, I think, has given him a bad grasp on money. However, he did not get anyone else anything as far as I know.
I did accept the gift. It didn’t even occur to me that I should decline, but some friends have implied a mistake on my part. What should I do? I could offer to reimburse him, while respectfully noting my discomfort with the extravagance of the gift or should I simply not say anything. I would appreciate some impute, please!

Answer
This is a tough one. If you are convinced that you're not interested in him, then you should have declined the gift when he gave it to you. You can't change the past, so I can think of two options:

1. If you haven't used the iPod--i.e., if he can still return it to the store, then give it back and say something like, "you are such a generous friend (and emphasize "friend"), but I can't accept this because it's too extravagant."

2. Get him something. But if you do this, he may take it as a sign that your relationship is closer than you want.

The reason you feel uncomfortable with his generosity is that you correctly understand that it obliges you to him. So if he does eventually make a move, he may feel that you owe him something or that you took advantage if you don't date him... Or you may feel like you have to date him. Even if he freely chose to give you things. Either way, the situation won't be good.

Whether you want a future with this guy or not, I think it is time to put the brakes on the gifts. You don't want to end up in a situation where you feel like he is giving you a lot. That kind of imbalance never ends well, no matter how nice are the people involved. Ask him to eat at cheaper places with you or to go out less often. It would be OK for him to contribute a little more if he wants to do something expensive, but you don't want him paying all the time. Good luck.

What is a good gift for an 80th birthday for a grandfather?

Magnus

How about some gift ideas? Grandfather turning 80...we have no idea what to get him?

Answer
Happy 80th Birthday to your Grandfather! Wow!!

A scrapbook may be a good idea. If you can get pictures of him through out his life, you could "interview" him and include his memories and thoughts and stories. You could also get stories from other members of the family to include. Or instead of making it a scrapbook of his life, you could make one of his cherished family members from when he was young. Either way, it's the stories and memories are what will truly make this a very special gift.

Remarkable Memories Digitally Designed Scrapbooks is a professional scrapbooking company that can help you put this together.

80th birthday gift suggestions please!?

Deborah

My Uncle is turning 80 in October and I'm desperate for gift idea's. When his wife turned 80 earlier this year, I sent her a huge Edible Arrangement and it was a big hit. I cannot possibly send him the same thing and steal her thunder. He is a diabetic dialysis patient, so no cookie bouquet.

Any suggestions you have for a unique, good quality gift would be appreciated!

Answer
I have been on dialysis. It is incredibly boring. If your uncle stays awake during dialysis (a lot of patients sleep during most of it), then I'd suggest something he can do during dialysis. If he likes to read, then maybe a book by his favorite author, or a subscription to a favorite magazine.. Or if he is cold during dialysis (most people are) then maybe a customized blanket that you can get at Walmart/other stores w/ family pictures.

He could still have an edible gift; it just needs to be dialysis and diabetic friendly. Here is a link to some of those (please note that you can change it to see the other food categories like snacks)).

Here is a link to gift giving ideas for people on dialysis:
http://www.davita.com/kidney-disease/dialysis/life-on-dialysis/gift-giving-guide-for-dialysis-patients/e/5296

You could ask the crafty people in the family to make a scrapbook of new and old family pictures, complete w/ names/locations/dates.

If he likes movies, a movie gift basket of his favorite movie, dialysis friendly snacks and a gift card to rent more movies might work.

xmas gift for dancer?

Am I being selfish and stupid? No V-Day gift?

Beige Brow

Valentines day to me is about GIFTS!!

its not about love...its a greeting card holiday.

If you care about someone...then you show them EVERY DAY!! You dont wait for one day to cook for them, or to shower them with praise!

My bf came over last night and i ordered in and presented his gift. He likes to make his own shirts and so i got him all the supplies he wold need to do so.

This morning he left (did not take his gift with him) and came back to pick me up at 2 for a play we had been planning to see for months. He spent the entire time slumped in his chair.

We went antiquing where he spent most of the time listless and mopey.

Im leu of going to his house for dinner (he oft makes dinner, no candles, flowers, or fluff), i asked him to take me home.

Am i being silly?

Answer
You're not silly at all! It's nice when someone puts together dinner for you, but it also shows that they really put time & consideration into it if they add a romantic touch. As for gifts, I often treat my family members with coffee or lunch or buy something small & nice every month of so because I like to bestow those I love with simple things. It makes me feel good when someone takes the time to get me something to make me happy, which is why I do it for other people. You said, "If you care about someone, you show them everyday." I'm guessing that it's not just on Valentine's Day that he doesn't buy little gifts & whatnot, which is probably WHY your annoyed because on the one day when it almost expected that he does SOMETHING, he does nothing as usual even then. Let him know that setting the mood with flowers or candles is something simple but special & less-than time consuming that you would really appreciate. Let him know that the little treats here & there mean more than he thinks. Setting the table nicely & buying a bouquet on Valentine's Day neither takes hours or burns a whole in your wallet, so what reason does he have for neglecting either? He should know that doing those little things for you just lets you know that he was thinking of you & wanted to see you smile. I'm sure he often IS thinking about you & wants to make you happy, but guys sometimes don't pick up on the little things that please us, don't think it's all that important, or are uncomfortable about getting together what they think of as girly things. Tell him about how much you appreciate those little things. Personally, a single rose, a box of chocolates, or tacky stuffed animal is wonderful, because it just lets me know that someone's thinking of me! Don't nag at him obviously; discuss the topic in a manner in which he can understand your point of view & perhaps empathize a bit. About leaving his gift behind, I don't know what kind of feedback to give about that, but I found a passage on a site that you might like to refer to in the future...

"If you do something nice for someone, it makes you feel good on two levels. You feel pleased with yourself and extra-warm toward the person you've just spoiled. To justify the effort or expense, we often over-idealize how wonderful he is to deserve it! End result: we like the person more. When someone does something nice for us, we're pleased. But there are a whole lot of other emotions that come into play -- and they're not all good. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed. There's pressure to live up to being the wonderful person who inspired such a gift/act, not to mention pressure to return the favor. It's all even trickier if the "nice thing" comes from someone you very much like but aren't sure about yet. Got the point? When we're infatuated with someone, we're desperate to do nice things for him. You're much better off letting him spoil you."

So basically, you can either let nature takes its course & let things play out on their own, or you can tell him personally how much the small stuff really means. Either way, good luck!

what is a good v day gift ?

Kaden's Mo

i wanted to send some flowers to my boyfriend house or job do you think that would be nice if not give me suggestions plz

Answer
I don't know if guys appreciate flowers as much as women do, especially if it's sent to his job. He could be just embarrassed. We don't know him, & you do, so it's not for us to judge. Maybe a succulent like a jade plant that you've put in a clay pot for him would be good to deliver to him yourself. It would last longer than flowers & doesn't take a lot of watering.

How about a picture of you or maybe a collage of photos of the 2 of you together & maybe somewhere you've been together like a zoo or wherever? It could be like one of those decorated scrapbook pages, only framed & ready to hang. Doesn't have to be expensive. I suppose the supplies are expensive, but not like a lot of stuff like jewelry.

Or, how about a gift certificate for a skating rink or something you like to do together, but not on a particular day or evening? Or maybe a homemade gift certificate for a meal at your house or dessert & coffee would be fun. You could decorate it, & it could be quite charming. Or plan an evening alone together at your place, trading babysitting with someone, even if it has to be another night. You could plan a rented movie & snacks. (unless that's old hat for you already) You get the general idea, I'm sure, & can plan whatever suits your interests.

A Swiss Army Knife is a timeless gift that a lot of guys like, if he doesn't already have one. I was in a group with 4 guys led by a traveling couple, & the guys all wanted us to get the couple a Swiss Army Knife as a thank-you gift. They were unanimous in thinking it was a perfect gift, so maybe that's a common thought among men. It was fine with me. It was kind of clever. I thought it was wonderful that they came up with the whole idea on their own & did the shopping. My brother also picked that as a gift for my mother's second husband. If not for this occasion, keep the idea for another time.

Flashlights & lanterns & sports items are all good, too. There are wind-up flashlights now for power outages. Some of them will even charge a cellphone or laptop.

There have been so many sales lately, so maybe you'd see a good price on a sweater, if there are any left, or maybe some witty T-shirt, as long as it doesn't say something insulting. That's if you didn't already use those ideas at Christmas.

Enjoy!

Answer
I assume this is the Liberty Pass from Pokemon Black & White?
It was distributed wirelessly as a gift but only during late 2010 to early 2011, so there's no point trying to get it as a mystery gift at this time.

Some gifts can be shared, one person with it can give it to another using the Wondercard option but sadly you can't do it with the Liberty Pass, sorry.

what is a good gift for a 9 year wedding anniversary?

william

Answer
Something elegant. Something classy. And it doesn't have to be extremely expensive. Just something unique and memorable that only you could have thought of.

Red Envolope has some pretty good ideas: http://tinyurl.com/greatgiftchoices

Also another one of my favorites is Popcornopolis: http://tinyurl.com/popcornopolis
They have a variety of gourmet flavored Popcorn gift baskets. Yes popcorn! Sounds crazy right? If all else fails, you can't go wrong with popcorn. They let you customize your own baskets and choose what flavors you want. Oh and the shipping is free.

Anyways, hope that helps.

perfect yankee swap gift under 30$!?

Andrea

so, im going to a holiday party on the 22nd and its with all my girlfriends. we are all 20 and we are pretty classy girls. i was wondering what the best yankee swap gift under 30$ would be- something creative.
exclude clothes and gift certificates though.
thanks!

Answer
You could make a gift basket with a bunch of little things. Just pick a theme, like bath products (include yummy smelling shower gel, moisturizer, a little poof), or baking (include a cute little apron, a chef's hat, write out some of your favorite recipes or include a cookbook, maybe some measuring cups).
