We didn't have much money growing up and my Mom always says food is one thing everyone uses!

She used to fill a box for each kid with their favorite snack foods, Ramon noodles, pudding cups, jerky etc... Things we normally couldn't afford day to day. Still a good idea for teenager boys!

Make your own gift baskets, as a example, maybe a colander filled with spaghetti noodles, sauce, hot pads and a pasta spoon.

Along that idea, Do you have a favorite recipe? Something everyone always asks for the recipe? Make a gift basket with it, maybe a pan and ingredients with the recipe typed on a nice card?

My kids like getting a tooth brush basket, fill a tooth brush holder with special accessories that each kiddo likes.

Oh, Sam's club has some very reasonable priced picture gifts. Cups, calenders even mens ties. Did you know that you can upload and order your pictures online and pick up your order at Sams or have them shipped to you? I just did a large order and they came out just beautiful

There are a few "rewards" worth 10 & 20 points each, but they are only good for entries into sweepstakes to win diapers and wipes, and and ALEX creative sweepstakes, and donations to charities. After the 20 points, the next thing you can redeem for is a 400 point 11X14 photo collage from Shutterfly. Are you sure the 87 points will give you a pack of diapers and not a chance to WIN diapers for a year?

I was wondering though, is there any website that provides the facility to write your own bespoke list so instead of saying I want picture frame xyz from john lewis we could say, we'd love a picture frame that would go with a green room and leave the choice to the guest? I am a science teacher at an alternative school. One of my students, a girl I've taught for the past 4 years, is graduating next week; her last day of school is tomorrow. "N" has overcome significant challenges, and is only the 2nd person in her family to graduate from high school. Moreover, she has done so while maintaining honor-roll status throughout high school, WITHOUT getting pregnant, and WITHOUT having to repeat a year of school. Her behavior, furthermore, has improved dramatically this year. (You perhaps would have to work at my school to appreciate what formidable achievements these are.) Consequently, in addition to attending her graduation, I would like to get her something to show her how proud I am of her accomplishments -- but I am truly stumped. ANY ideas would be appreciated. Maybe it's hard for any of you to understand why a teacher would buy a present for a student -- but you don't know what some of my students have been through. 99% of our student bofy falls below the poverty line, and our graduation rate is about 55%. This girl DESERVES some recognition for her efforts.

as a teacher, i think that you have to get her something slightly neutral just to not have it look badly to the wrong people. for example-if you got her jewelry it might be taken the wrong way. a picture frame with an inspirational quote around it is a meaningful gift and conveys what you want to say-that you are proud of her, and you want to continue to inspire her success in her future.

if she is continuing onto college, you may want to get her something fun as well-such as a white board for her dorm room with some cute magnets. those together would make a nice gift. and would not send the wrong message to anyone. but are meaningful and would show her that you care and are so very proud of her.

however, some school districts have rules against teachers accepting gifts from students, so there may be rules for vice versa-i would double check that giving such a gift would not break any rules and lead to any disciplinary action.

she, as well as many other children, are lucky to have such caring teachers in their lives. they need role models now more than ever. I am inspired that there are still people that care! teaching is a life-consuming job, often thankless, and lower-paying than it should be. we should be paying more tribute to those preparing our children for the future. i hope this helps!

Ok so I want anyone reading to give a quick critique of my gift choices. I appreciate your time.

So, for a Vietnamese Catholic family consisting of my 62 year old friend, his 54 year old wife, and their 14 year old daughter.

For the man: A 144-piece tool set with screwdrivers, a hammer, clippers, different wrench variations etc.

For the wife: A Homedics relaxation fountain

For the daughter: A bath set (?) that my Mom "thought was nice".... it had lotion, body wash, and some other feminine thing in there.

That type of gift is way too romantic - you're friends - not a couple - if you want to drop a hint that you're romantically attracted to her, why not give her a gift certificate to a nearby restaurant and a gift card for the movies - if she suggests that you two go together, then you're set! =)

It's a "gift-opening party" usually done the day after the wedding. Usually it is hosted at the bride's parent's house. I have been to one before and the immediate close family and friends from both the bride and groom's side were invited, not the whole guest list from the wedding!! You just eat and talk about the wedding and possibly look at pictures if any have been developed already and just have a good time with the bride and groom.

A gift-opening party isn't a nationwide tradition but is very popular in certain areas of the country. It essentially takes the concept of the day-after brunch one step further.

What happens is that your friends and family all gather together and watch you open your wedding gifts (it's basically like a bridal shower, only in this case many of the gift-givers may not be present).
If you're not crazy about the idea, here's a compromise: After the brunch, once most of your guests have hit the road and only your very close friends and family are still there, take some time and open the gifts for those folks to see.

Go out to eat and maybe give your Dad a gift card for Lowe's or something he would like. No need to be unique or different. Men aren't into that stuff. They are into Lowe's or even a gift certificate to something he likes. If your Dad is a big baseball fan, buy him two tickets to a baseball game. That is maybe something he wouldn't do for himself.

My wife asked that, in lieu of buying her an expensive gift, that I give one of her boys a big chunk of cash for college. I still want to get her something. I am taking her on a trip, but want to get her something she can hold in her hands, but is not terribly expensive.

She is pretty, looks much younger than 50, slender, athletic and very feminine. She also will not tell me what she wants for a gift, or implies that she doesn't want anything, which I assume is not true.

Why do women not want to tell you what they want for a gift? My first wife was the same way. I wouldn't hesitate if somebody asked me that question! Why do I have to figure it out?????? Help!!!!!!!

One of the best gifts I ever got didn't cost my husband a dime. For some reason, turning 20 really was freaking me out (not much longer till I'm 30, and I'm looking forward to it).

I woke up on my 20th birthday to a pink carnation (my fave flower) on the pillow next to me. When I finally dragged my butt out of bed, pleased with the flower, but still feeling pretty bad because of turning 20, he sat me down on the couch, kneeled down next to me and held my hands. He told me how beautiful and amazing I was, and how he was so happy to have married me. He told me how he was looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together. How he appreciated me, cherished me and valued me.

Of course, I broke down into tears at this point! I was in my bathrobe with my hair uncombed and he still thought I was the most beautiful woman in the world.

We spent the rest of the day curled up together watching movies, or in the hottub splashing and laughing. I've never had a better day and it didn't cost a thing.

Well, if he KNEW it was her birthday, he should've, at least, acknowledged it...with a "happy birthday", a card, a gift,...

If he's too young to drive then he's relying on his parents to drive (and possibly pay) for a card and gift. Maybe he didn't ask, maybe he couldn't, maybe he did and they wouldn't take him).

More than likely (as long as you know that he DID know about her b'day)---he is just clueless. Alot of them are. They have to be trained to behave the way you want them to...if they don't know any better, they have to be taught.

Why don't you talk to him and find out if he knew it was her b'day. If he didn't, now he will, and he can still make it up to her (and do better in the future, but she may need to be more open about what she wants and expects from him). If he DID know, then you can let him know how his gf is feeling about it all and HOPEFULLY he does try to make it up to her anyway.

If he just doesn't care either way then...he's probably not worth keeping around...that's up to her though, of course.

My bf has gotten me earrings and i love them! Ask her if she has her ears pierced, don't say why though. I personally like earrings more than necklaces. I remember to wear them more. There are also really nice birthstone bracelets. Look at those too! Im not trying to overwhelm you with ideas just giving you some options!

Also does she like to read? Or drink coffee or tea? Try to get her something personalized, like if she loves coffee get her a mug she can always use. Things like that come off very thoughtful and nice.

It would be safer to mail these items to your destination. Also, gifts cannot be wrapped as they need to be checked going thru security. Gifts will be unwrapped.
