Is my child Gifted?

bec b

hi... i think my 1 and a half yr old is showing signs of being gifted... she already says her abc's and can count and says full sentences that i havnt seen a 1 yr old say before... can u tell me if she is gifted or not? and if there is anything in MELBOURNE that i can take her to to help her grow?

Answer
It's wonderful that your child is doing these things - it shows that you are paying a lot of attention to her and encouraging her.

I'd not be so quick to work on the "gifted" aspect of the child. I approached my pedi with similar questions when my first child was about that age - but it seemed to be in an artistic sense. What she told me was something that I've since found to be absolutely true:

Your child will not "forget" how to learn if you don't push the learning right now. However, the first three years of a child's life are where they learn their creativity. Focusing too much on the gifted aspect at this time of their life can cripple them in other ways.

Keep teaching her things - keep talking to her. It's likely you have a child who will grow up quite gifted at least in languages and other similar aptitudes. But make sure that she's getting a lot of creative outlets, too. Encourage the make-believe play, coloring, dress-up, imaginary friends, tea parties - so many gifted children are denied the ability to be *children* by parents who focus on their *gifts.*

Do your little one the biggest favor in the world and let her *play* while she's young! Once she gets in pre-school/kindergarten, she'll have years and years ahead of her to enhance her intelligence. She won't get stupid if you don't push her now. Let her be little and grow at the pace *she* wants to grow at!

Good luck.

How do Amazon gift cards work?

RiverEdits

Do they work like iTunes gift cards? Like can you get six $50 Amazon gift cards & it'll add each to your balance online(like iTunes)? I wanna buy these sunglasses on Amazon, & they're $250. So I was just gonna buy six $50 Amazon gift cards so it would add up to $300. Will it work? Btw I've also seen Amazon KINDLE gift cards? Do they work for ANY purchase on Amazon too? Jw..

Answer
Purchases are deducted from the Amazon.com Gift Card balance. Any unused balance will be placed in the recipient's Amazon.com Gift Card account when redeemed. If an order exceeds the amount of the Amazon.com Gift Card, the balance must be paid with a credit card or other available payment method. Amazon.com may provide Gift Card purchasers with information about the redemption status of Amazon.com Gift Cards that they purchase.

what is a good gift for a 9 year wedding anniversary?

william

Answer
Something elegant. Something classy. And it doesn't have to be extremely expensive. Just something unique and memorable that only you could have thought of.

Red Envolope has some pretty good ideas: http://tinyurl.com/greatgiftchoices

Also another one of my favorites is Popcornopolis: http://tinyurl.com/popcornopolis
They have a variety of gourmet flavored Popcorn gift baskets. Yes popcorn! Sounds crazy right? If all else fails, you can't go wrong with popcorn. They let you customize your own baskets and choose what flavors you want. Oh and the shipping is free.

Anyways, hope that helps.

What is a good gift for an 80th birthday for a grandfather?

Magnus

How about some gift ideas? Grandfather turning 80...we have no idea what to get him?

Answer
Happy 80th Birthday to your Grandfather! Wow!!

A scrapbook may be a good idea. If you can get pictures of him through out his life, you could "interview" him and include his memories and thoughts and stories. You could also get stories from other members of the family to include. Or instead of making it a scrapbook of his life, you could make one of his cherished family members from when he was young. Either way, it's the stories and memories are what will truly make this a very special gift.

Remarkable Memories Digitally Designed Scrapbooks is a professional scrapbooking company that can help you put this together.

80th birthday gift suggestions please!?

Deborah

My Uncle is turning 80 in October and I'm desperate for gift idea's. When his wife turned 80 earlier this year, I sent her a huge Edible Arrangement and it was a big hit. I cannot possibly send him the same thing and steal her thunder. He is a diabetic dialysis patient, so no cookie bouquet.

Any suggestions you have for a unique, good quality gift would be appreciated!

Answer
I have been on dialysis. It is incredibly boring. If your uncle stays awake during dialysis (a lot of patients sleep during most of it), then I'd suggest something he can do during dialysis. If he likes to read, then maybe a book by his favorite author, or a subscription to a favorite magazine.. Or if he is cold during dialysis (most people are) then maybe a customized blanket that you can get at Walmart/other stores w/ family pictures.

He could still have an edible gift; it just needs to be dialysis and diabetic friendly. Here is a link to some of those (please note that you can change it to see the other food categories like snacks)).

http://www.davita.com/recipes/subNavLanding.cfm?folderID=723&recipeMainFolder=desserts#diettype

Here is a link to gift giving ideas for people on dialysis:
http://www.davita.com/kidney-disease/dialysis/life-on-dialysis/gift-giving-guide-for-dialysis-patients/e/5296

You could ask the crafty people in the family to make a scrapbook of new and old family pictures, complete w/ names/locations/dates.

If he likes movies, a movie gift basket of his favorite movie, dialysis friendly snacks and a gift card to rent more movies might work.

Birthday gift for 40 yo brother?

vanessa

My older brother is turning 40 soon. I need ideas for a gift, hopefully under $50, but if I love the idea I might go up to $100.
He is a computer engineer, so obviously loves his electronic gadgets but usually gets those things himself. He's married and has 2 daughters in grade school. For past Christmas holidays I have given him things like a scarf, itunes gift card, but I'd like to get him something cooler if I can. Can anyone help me?

Answer
Gift card to his favorite electronics store...ask his wife to covertly find out for you.

Gift for a 40th surprise birthday?

spintool

I've always been of firm belief that adults don't give other adults birthday presents, except maybe a joke gift. But the guy's wife (my wife's cousin) has made it known gifts are expected. I think its rude, and I refuse to attend unless we don't bring a gift. My wife is mad and wants to buy a real gift and go. What do people think?

Answer
Just buy a gift a go. If not for them, for your wife. If this is effecting your personal life, it's not worth it to keep fighting it. Your wife's happiness is way more important than your rude friend.

But for the record, I totally agree. I think it would be incredibly rude to expect someone to bring presents to a party for an adult.

However, on the other hand, it is a "milestone" party and perhaps they dont usually have birthday parties or require gifts at the party?
Just a thought.

Valentines Day! gift ideas..?

emily

I need some valentines day gift ideas for my boyfriend.

P.s he has everything!

Answer
Sweet Treats Basket

Save money this Valentine's Day while still giving him a gift he can enjoy by putting together a little basket of sweet treats. Cake, brownie, cookie and muffin mixes are all relatively inexpensive, especially if you purchase them when they go on sale. Use these mixes to bake him up some delicious goodies or use your own family recipes to bake them from scratch. Put them in a decorative basket with a napkin on the bottom. You can go even further and decorate the basket with some ribbon and fabric if you wish, but really, that isn't necessary because he is sure to be focused on the scrumptious morsels inside the basket more than the basket itself.

Homemade Dinner

A homemade dinner as a Valentine's gift is along the same lines as a basket filled with baked goods, only this gift not only fills his stomach, but also allows the two of you to spend some time together. Put together a full meal for the two of you to enjoy on Valentine's Day with some romantic candlelight. Make an appetizer, a salad, a main course and a dessert. Pair each course with a nice wine, alcoholic or non depending on your preference. After dinner the two of you can snuggle up on the couch, enjoy a movie and eat your dessert.

Low-budget wedding gift for the couple who has everything?

Sue

I'm going with my boyfriend of almost four years to his brother's wedding. The bride and groom are like family to me, and we want to do something special for them, but we're students with hardly any money. They already live together and have all the typical newlywed stuff like toasters and wine glasses. They already have the money to buy anything they want anyway, and gift cards seem lame. Ideas, please!

Answer
Date night.

Get a collander and a pasta ladle. Fill it with spaghetti or tortellinis, sauce, spices for the sauce like galric and onion powder. A box of awesome cookies, coffee, creamer, sugar for dessert. That kind of thing whatever their fav. meal and desert is make a kit. Include a nice candle and a gift card to rent a movie or two at Blockbuster.

I've also done the same thing where we go buy a big bean/stock pot and fill it with everything you need to make a southern dinner like black-eye peas, spices, jar jalapenos, cornbread mix. Then we take a mason jar and layer it with all the ingredients for something like a lemon bar or include a pair of baby pecan pies. Clear cellophane bag with a pretty card that has the recipe/instructions and a nice bow. His family up north loves it and it only runs about 40 bucks if you get a really nice pot.

It might not be the most exspensive gift in the world but it's thoughtful. I undertand about being on a budget. I'm a student myself.

How do i sell a lowes gift card with 4,400 dollars on it?

Blake

Answer
There are several companies that buy gift cards and pay you cash. They don't pay the full face value of the card, but at least you'd get most of the money from it. Here is a link with more information and comparison of several of the reputable companies that buy gift cards: http://www.squidoo.com/unwanted-gift-cards Don't believe that you can buy things with a card and return them for cash. Most companies just issue another gift card when you return things purchased with a gift card.

Macy's gift card - buying suggestions?

Curious Ge

I have this $50 macy's gift card. I am a very down to earth male in my twenties and have no idea what to buy (given that I rarely go out shopping). If you have any great ideas for items you have bought or would like to recommend be bought at the macy's store, please suggest. Also, if you have any ideas on how I can get the money out of the card that would be great. I must add that I do find the store rather expensive. I would be more than happy to buy stuff that is more value for money at the local walmart. :)

Answer
Maybe spend it on some towels or kitchen appliances. They have everything at Macy's, I'm sure you will find something. Plus, you didn't spend the money for the gift card, so why not spoil yourself with something nice :-)

Valentine's Day small gift ideas?

Michelle

I did not plan on exchanging gifts with my boyfriend as this is our 3rd Valentine's day, and we never have. Well he was talking about it today about what to get me, and I told he did not need to get me anything all I need is for him to be here and cook me dinner, and he said ok but he still wanted to get me something.

So now I feel like I need to get him something, which what I was thinking was small and one thing is something for both of us. I was thinking a bottle of Skyy Vodka (his favorite and hasn't had it in a long time), and KY Yours and Mine (we have never tried it). Does this sound ok for Valentine's day?? I have never exchanged gifts with anyone on this holiday before.

Valentine's Day Gift?

Brittni M

Believe it or not this is the first Valentine's Day that I have a significant other. I am living with him and we are in love. I know, it sounds korny, but oh well.

I have no idea what to get him! I know what he likes and what his interests are, but I don't know if you get a normal gift as you would for a birthday or during the holiday season or if it should be something Valentine's-ish.

I would love answers from both sexes.

Thank you in advance, I appreciate it :)

Answer
Valentine's day is all about the idea of love and romance so you should definitely give something symbolic of your love. I would suggest that you give him both kinds of gifts, a lovey-dovey one and a normal one. Maybe you could frame a picture of you guys together, or make a CD of the songs you both love, or maybe write him a poem, or make him a drawing. Work with your creativity. An addition to the personal gift maybe you could get him a nice shirt or a wallet. Maybe if he likes a certain sport like football you could get him his favorite team shirt. Get something personal and something normal. Put your gift in a cute box, with some chocolates around, tie it with a ribbon and just give it to him. Remember to spend a great time this day and maybe when you guys go home later in the day you could wear some sexy lingerie for him and surprise him ;)

Hope I answered your question!

Have fun! :)

Birthday party for 9 year old.?

I am having a scavenger hunt for my son's 9th birthday party. I am hiding 8 different things throughout the park and I am giving them clues as to where to find them. Do you think they will like this or think it's dorky. How much time should I give them to find the objects. The prize is going to be a treat bag and a $1 gift certificate to McDonald's. Give me you thoughts on this. Thanks

Answer
Yes I think its a great game. My thoughts: Hide 9 different things ( he's 9 years old) 9 mintues to find the things and $9 dollars for the gift certificate and hopefully there will only be 9 children at the scavenger hunt. Have fun and take pictures!!

Is a Wii an appropriate birthday gift for a 9 year old for his birthday?

In cognito

I was also considering a Nintendo DS or a Playstation Portable.

Answer
We bought our soon to be 6 year old a Wii. He plays with it but its not oriented to someone so young. The games require a lot different things at once and its hard for one so young. But for a 9 year old they have way more coordination and reading skills. Also they are just more patient sometimes. My 6 year old niece has a DS and she loves it. I personally think the Wii is loads of fun and gets them moving. My son loves the boxing game and it gets him off the coach and bopping around the living room.

Did you get what you wanted for Xmas 2013?

JG

I didn't get anything on Xmas, and I am not worried about it. Someone I know is sending my family and I a new laptop via mail, so I consider that a belated Xmas gift. I am hoping I get it before the year is over. What about you?

Answer
I got some very nice things. sorry you didn't get anything though. do you and your family not usually exchange gifts?

Are there such things as credit card gift cards that DO NOT expire?

Q. My wife loves to buy gifts way ahead of time. Like she was done for Christmas 2012 before Christmas 2011 LOL

and she decided to get credit card gift cards instead for a few people for xmas 2012 and for 2013
and we were hoping that there is such a things as credit card gift cards that do not expire or lose money without use for a year or 2

Thanks
Pancake you do not know nothing about credit card gift cards!!!
It is a gift card but can be used anywhere because it is from a credit card company. most stores like walmart, wegmans and target carry them. so do not answer my question with ignorance

Answer
Pancake I agree with John. WTF!
You didn't even answer their question just a bunch of opininated crap! LOL

Yes there are credit card gift cards that do not have expiration dates and Pancake must never get no exp. coupons LOL because there are things with no expiration

getting my mom a gift to say sorry?

Q. I need to some how say im sorry to my mom, im behind on getting her gifts i didnt get her a gift for Christmas so for her birthday in April i got her the late Christmas gifts and now for mothers day i gave her a happy birthday card with her gift,. shes pissed at me and i been dodging her calls for the past two days. what can i do to make up for this?
my apt is a mess and she cry's every time she sees it :(

Answer
Invite her out for dinner. or if you can't afford that, invite her over and cook her a meal! This may seem like a date but one on one time with her son would be way better than a gift. :) good luck

what do you get a person a gift for I'm sorry?

jess

she has a romanian backround

Answer
depends more on why you need to say sorry, and how close you are to this person.

if you broke something, or the sorry is for something material, a good gift would be something to replace or improve what was lost/broken

if it was an emotional altercation and you are close to this person, a good gift might be something cute that would make her laugh, and spark a conversation again

if you aren't that close to the person, a written or verbal apology might be best, and a gift might make it seem like you are "buying" your forgiveness

if it's a major fight, instead of a gift, plan time or a dinner, or something that would let the two of you get together, with no cost for her (pick her up, shoulder all expenses, make sure she doesnt need to miss anything important for the meeting, etc.) that would let you talk and smooth things over.

and of course, the best gift for saying sorry is time. :D

Gift for your bridesmaids?

Rosie-doll

I am a bridesmaid in a wedding in about a month. The bride asked me the other day what she should get us as gifts, and I busted out laughing since generally it's a 'surprise'. LOL. Anyway I told her that jewelry to wear during the wedding is generally what you get but she said she did buy us earrings but they were cheap and not enough to be considered a 'gift'. I told her not to worry but she still asked for my advice, so I think she's having trouble coming up with something.

I think she wants (and I'm sure we do too, since some of us have been in multiple weddings lately) to get us something 'different' or 'unique'....so not the normal stuff.
I happen to use wristlets all the time and suggested that she could get us wristlets with our names embroidered...but I don't know how much that would cost or if the other girls would even like it.
So what are some gifts you've gotten your bridesmaids that they seemed to really like or if you've been a bridesmaid and gotten an awesome gift, what was it?

She's not planning on spending a ton of money I"m sure so ~30ish dollars would be a good starting point. I've embarked on a search on Etsy in the meantime.
Thanks!!
So jewlry, wine/champagne glasses, flasks...etc. are out.
Man, that river rock idea is sooo cool! I'm jealous of you.
The basket idea too....good stuff.

I'll mention the 'individualistic' gift idea to her, but not sure that will go over....they both work full time and have a young daughter so she may not have time to think about individual gifts for everyone by the time the wedding rolls around. Especially since she's just now starting to think of it! =D
I actually did tell her stuff I specifically would want -- in jest, a little.

Answer
The best gifts I have ever gotten for being in weddings were always the gifts given by brides who didn't try to do the matching gifts nonsense and just got us stuff they knew we would like.

For example, when I was in my oldest brother's wedding, we all got the same basic thing, a necklace with a rock from the lake my brother met his wife at, BUT the bride made them all to each of the bridemaids individual styles. So I got a necklace with a black rock on a bad ass industrial looking chain, another bridesmaid got a copper colored rock on a delicate silver chain, and so on. In other weddings I've gotten books I've been meaning to read, CDs, gift cards to Game Stop, all stuff the bride knows I actually LIKE. The other girls all got stuff that matched their tastes and interests as well.

suggestions for baby shower gifts ?

Blogs_123

i have been invited for baby shower...and would like to see what gift should i take there? Any help/hints would be useful...

Answer
Etsy has some cute handmade gifts. Specifically, I got the organic Sam hat from this person's store: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6422389&order=&section_id=&page=1

It's soft and looks adorable on my friend's baby. If you are close friends or relatives, you may want to get something more expensive than a hat, though. I also saw and Ipood tshirt that made me crack up laughing (but I don't remember where I saw it).

Meaningful gifts for Christmas?

Shop that does personalized gifts in UK?

xAbusedAng

Need to get a christmas present for boyfriend, something personalized. Do you know of any places that do this in the UK?

Answer
It's not in the UK, but might help..

If you want to go with something personal and memorable - you can get really cheap custom gifts with a photo of your choice at http://www.attitudereadjustment.com . They have many choices - from clothing to mugs, umbrellas, mousepads.. You just upload the picture you want printed on it, and they do it. Feel free to be creative and search for some nice and memorable picture on the Internet. They do take 3-4 weeks to deliver, but for their prices it's well worth the wait. Best of all, they offer free shipping! =)

Shipping a gift to the UK?

Maddieemil

I'm am going to be shipping a gift to a friend in the UK in about a week. It has just come to be attention that they may have to pay a tax on it?
I'm am going to be sending a few gifts valuing a little of $100 altogether.
Is there a way to insure he doesn't have to pay the VAT? And how much is the tax?

Answer
Nah, he wont have to pay anything if its under 100 dollars.

Found this online:
"Paying VAT....

If it’s a gift, for example from a friend or relative, you only have to pay VAT if it’s worth more than £36."

(38 pounds is about $60.) However, scrolling lower, it says:

"Paying customs duty
You pay duty on goods from outside the EU if they’re above a certain value.

Merchandise £0 - £135 No duty"

So there, it implies that it has to be worth more than 135 pounds. Just make sure wherever it asks the relationship, you say friend or gift. The vat is more for commercial stuff or sending cigarettes.

I have a few people to shop for, not many. (=

Mom is settled soo no worries, I'm getting her a candle [Lame but its going to have an artsy design holder, and she loves them!] A cookie jar with her favorite little candies and goodies, some candy cane holders for the fireplace, a twas the night before christmas poem I drew and illustrated. and possibly a scrapbook with pictures I'm just finding from when I was a small girl [Scrapbook made by me, don't worry literally everything next to my desk is all scrapbook related!] and a few soda bottle caps I gave her $10 cause I decided it would be MUCH easier for her to buy what she wants. :)

I need help with.. My dog;Holly, my Cat;Mowgli [realize hes a purebred ragdoll so hes a lazy fat bum, and he was a showcat so he isn't loving, but FEATHERS, and soft stuff that are stick like, he loves to attack.] and my down syndrome brother; Brent!

My dog: She's a small welsh corgi, the runt of her litter, beautiful pup though.. She seems to like toys I believe, but they get ripped easy and ruined.

My cat: Fat bum, hes actually a large in dog clothes, or a medium if its for a large dog. Haha, he's a pure sweetheart, we need a big cat tree, so where could we find a GIANT one?

Then my brother brent?? He adores DVD's never watches though so It's a waste.. He hates fake tattoos, even though he likes them he pulls them off. He's the toughest and I don't know his personality enough, he's 15 if that helps. [Acts like 5].

Dads Christmas Gift - Around 60 Dollars?

Becca Sand

Im looking for one bigger gift for my dad for christmas. I was thinking around 60 dollars. Any idea?

Answer
As a father and grandfather I am telling you to forget gifts that you buy. I suggest that you collect up alll the old family photos you can find, put them in a nice album with a little description of the time, date, and situation and your thoughts.
Perhaps write a little description of the day the picture was taken. Get others in the family to help you with stories.

Other than my grandchildren the best thing one of my daughters gave me and something that I will always remember is when she put her arms around me and said 'I love you Daddy'. She was 25 years old when she did that.

AMAZON 1 DAY DELIVERY?

(:

I need to buy a gift for my coach and give it to him on friday. I dont have any money and i dont wanna borrow anyones money but i have money on amazon and i was wondering if amazon delivered any items in one day. And is shipping the same thing as delivery?? Because sometimes itll say an item is shipped but its not delivered yet.... so if i were to pay for 1 day shipping it would ship by tomorrow but when would it be delivered?

Answer
Yes, Amazon offers One Day Shipping, but you must choose that option, instead of the standard speed. One Day Shipping will cost more and you need to make sure you have enough money in your account to cover the higher shipping charge.

Shipping date is not the same as Delivery date. After you place your order, they need about a day to get the order ready, sometimes more. But when they say that they Shipped using One Day speed, it means you will get delivery overnight - not on the same day as the Ship Date. (that is, on the next business day after it ships out).

If you choose One Day Shipping, they will e-mail you with a tracking number, so you can follow the package online with U.S Postal Service, UPS, or whoever; just in case things go wrong on the way to you. Good luck!

What to put in gift basket for Mom's birthday?

b.mcgrath@

Making a gift basket for my mom's birthday. What should I put in it? She's not very picky. (And she's in her early 40's so she's not old) I'm going to throw in some nail polish, favorite candy, lotions...I don't really have any good ideas. If I can't get enough ideas I'm going to get her a jacket she wanted.
Any suggestions will be helpful, thank you!

Answer
A gift basket for your mom's birthday is a great idea! You can theme your basket around something you know she likes, or add a variety of goodies. Your basket will look much nicer though, if you try to match your gifts together somehow either by type, color, or even smell!

Check out this page for some inspiration and tons of ideas.

Hope this helps!

Good Christmas gifts for Mum and Dad?

Emmmm

Within a reasonable price range of course :)

Answer
You could get your mum a gift set at bath and body works, or candles. Maybe a giftcard to her favourite coffee place (or anywhere else she likes), or some cozy slippers or a bath robe? Bath bubbles, a pedicure set, a foot massager, or a really good book. CDs or DVDs. These ideas could probably all work.

As for dad, maybe a gift card, a mug, a baseball hat, a jersey of his favourite sports team, a CD of his favourite band, a toolbox or a razor, or if you're feeling brave, cologne. Maybe even one of those mega remotes, or a cover for his car when it snows, a new wallet, a photo album, a GPS system.

Hope I helped & Merry Christmas. ♥

If it means that much to you and you want it for a Birthday gift, then just email "him" with an attachment to the site and ask for it. The worst he could say is "NO"!!!

It does sound a bit pricey. Make sure it is a legitimate site and not a scam, ok !!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

i looking for a good inexpensive gift for my boyfriends birthday. any ideas?

Snookums L

he's turning 19 years old and i want something inexpensive nothing outrageous but in a $50 minimum
oh im sorry i meant $50 maximum

Answer
Ok, here's what I'm doing tomorrow for my fiance's birthday. I'm 28, he's 33:

I bought silk rose petals from Ebay, which was quite cheap. I also bought aromatic candles and some of those underwear that make elderly church-goers blush. I'm planning to spread the petals from the hallway up to the lounge (we have this fluffy white carpet which I love), candles lit right between the petals, a champaign standing by and me in the middle.

If you prefer a 'real' gift, you could possibly get him ex. a special dvd/cd box of his favourite band with additional material, a perfume (although that's kind of typical and predictable), a wallet, an old Polaroid camera, a two-day train ticket to somewhere close he may like or a special event. Remember also that the best gift is a personal gift, meaning something of his personal taste, not necessarily personal nature. Try to think of his tastes in music/sports/film. A photographic album of a favourite actor/actress or a framed picture of his favourite team being awarded a Cup? All these can be found on the internet as well.

Hope this helped a bit.

PS. If you are below 18 please ignore the first suggestion!

Two Gifts to buy with $40?

D

Okay so, tomorrow we don't have school. My brother offered to take me to Easton Town Center so I could do my Christmas shopping. But I'm stuck. I have to buy something for my Grandma and My Mom ! BUT I only have $40 to spend, because I also went Christmas shopping earlier this month. PLEASE tell me what I can buy for them, while staying within my budget. Also I only plan on going to places ( stores ) in Easton. I would greatly appreciate it. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS : )

Answer
$40? for two gifts?

That sounds like a DVD for each, that they would both like . Some movie they would enjoy seeing.

I suggest "The Legend of 1900" or -"Second Hand Lions" for Grandma.

"A Walk in the Clouds" for your mom, or maybe "Under the Tuscan Sun.

Trust me on this.

Any good ideas for a 40th birthday gift?

Free Think

My "special friend" is turning 40 next month and I am trying to think of something very special and romantic, as much as possible. I was thinking about a hot air balloon ride but I don't think I can afford that. I was thinking that an activity of some type would be more meaningful and memorable than a material gift.

Any ideas?

Answer
a well planned out picnic on a ride to no where. just drive and find a spot. bottle of wine cheese crackers, potato or macaroni salad chicken rolls grapes and two cupcakes and a candle. oh and wine glasses, corkscrew and a blanket. just drive talk and when you see a good spot stop. and just enjoy each other for the day away from everyday life and stress. a great gift idea would be just a wonderful picture of yourself. if you live near a lake or ocean you could write I love you in the sand and lay down behind it in a cute casual pose and that would make a great picture if I love you is not what you want to say you could write happy birthday in the sand. Good luck

40th birthday gift for mom?

LookForwar

My mom's birthday is in a couple of days and my dad and i want to get her somethings REALLY special because she's turning 40. We were thinking an iPad but to be honest, we don't have that much money to spend. What is another good gift idea for mom?

Answer
Have a Mom Day!
Take turns making breakfast, lunch and dinner for her. Take care of the house work, dishes and all of that stuff. Do some activities that she really enjoys, be it an event like going to the zoo, or something simple like playing frisbee in the back yard. Take pictures during the day and before you go to bed, give her a photo album. Let her know that you and your dad are going to get the pictures developed so she can have a book to remember her special day,

Mom's are sentimental people. They care about gifts from the heart and sentimental stuff more than anything that can be bought in a store.

Gift for an engagement party??

deez0477

My brother just got engaged. There is an engagement party in a couple weeks for the immediate families. Most of us (me, my husband and 2 kids included) are standing up in the wedding. I have never been to an engagement party. Are you supposed to bring a gift? If so, what kind of gift is good for an engagement party?

Answer
No gifts are required nor expected for an engagement party!! This is asked at least twice a week. Answer stays the same. An engagement party is simply for everyone to congratulate the couple, to learn about wedding details such as date and place, and when one of them is from out of town, a time to meet all the relatives/friends/close neighbours. If you are the type of person who hates showing up empty-handed, do as you would for a hostess gift - flowers, bottle of wine, box of candy.

What are traditional engagement gifts?

nixter5287

My boyfriend and I got engaged at the weekened :) YAY! We were wondering what are the traditional engagement gifts given to the happy couple?

Thanks!
Truthfully we weren't expecting any gifts!! We've been asked by family members what we would like as an engagement gift

Answer
There is no such thing as a "traditional" engagement gift, as engagements are not gift giving occasions. Sometimes people will choose to give gifts at an engagement party (I usually like to bring a nice bottle of wine) but they are not required.

surprise 50th birthday ...gifts welcomed wording?

Krystal

My two younger sisters and I are throwing my mom a surprise 50th bday party in a couple of mnths. Its not going to be anything formal. We are renting a pavillion (shelter) at a local park and going to be throwing a type of bbq. She loves that type of thing so it works perfect. My mom is one of those amazing moms that NEVER ask for anything for herself but me and my sisters would like people to bring gifts (including gag gifts...shes got a great sense humor) . We are making the invitation ourselves and I was wondering how we should word it. I plan on putting it all the way at the bottom of the invitation. Maybe if someone had some type of quick poem. Im not very good at stuff like that. Thanks in advance :)

Answer
Your mother surely deserves every good thing life has to offer, and she no doubt will be thrilled with the surprise party you and your sisters are giving her. Unfortunately, however, there really is no decent or polite way to request gifts in a birthday party invitation, not even when it's in honour of someone like your mum, who never asks for anything for herself.

Rest assured, however, that generally, when people are invited to a "Birthday" party, they automatically assume they are to bring a present of some sort. At your mother's age, people often DO give silly "gag" gifts, but you can also expect she will receive things like manicure gift cards and other "pampering" gifts.

You can also expect invitees to call one of you to ask what your mother might like for a present. They might ask what her favourite colour is, or if there is a certain perfume she particularly fancies. In such cases, answer them honestly, emphasizing how very thoughtful they are to even THINK to give her a gift.

Yes, I know, that last sentence probably made you wonder if I'd read your question right. The thing is, when one is hoping or fishing for gifts, one isn't supposed to be obvious about it. To avoid offending invitees by looking too eager for gifts, focus instead on their 'thoughtfulness' in even considering a gift, which in turn will ironically make them all the more sure to bring one.

Meanwhile, do keep in mind that regardless of any gifts brought by guests, this surprise party will be something your mother never forgets. It is the thoughtfulness of YOU kids that may well be the greatest gift of all on her 50th...and beyond.

Birthday gift?

where can i buy a music/jewelry box from a store? not online cus her birthday party is next friday, i dont want to spend over $50

Answer
Found this, Should be helpful:

Gifts according to your sign:
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Active Aries is always looking for ways to stay in shape, particularly during the holiday season... so athletic equipment is usually a good choice. People born under this sign are also fond of the color red, so a cranberry scarf or a scarlet hat could win their favor. If romance is in the air, let Aries know that you put his or her needs first. Buy tickets for two to a sporting event you loathe... or a CD by an artist you can't stand... to win big points with your favorite Ram.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Taurus appreciates any gift that appeals to his or her sensual side. A box of gourmet chocolates, a richly colored tapestry or a soft cashmere blanket are all great options for Bulls. This sign also enjoys having money to play with, so a gift certificate to their favorite store is a welcome option. Always remember that quality is more important than quantity – Taurus would rather have a small bottle of expensive cologne than a carafe of the cheap stuff.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Quick-witted Geminis enjoys gifts that appeal to their sizable intellects. A challenging book is always welcome, as is a magazine subscription. This sign rules the hands, so some scented hand lotion or a sparkling ring might delight. Geminis also love to entertain, so a set of glassware might fit the bill. If you want to splurge on a special Twin, give them the latest cell phone or PDA, so they can keep in touch with their gazillion friends.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Sentimental Cancer loves gifts that have personal meaning. Handmade items always delight, whether it's a finger painting, angora sweater or mincemeat pie. This sign also has a special affinity for silver – a monogrammed hand mirror or picture frame would be very well received. Since Crabs have an affinity for liquids of all kinds, a special bottle of wine, a fancy cappuccino maker or a shiny tea kettle are also good possibilities. And don't forget that these Moon children love the domestic arts – a cookbook specializing in comfort food is another sure winner.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Lions love gifts that make them look and feel terrific. Hair accessories, cosmetics and grooming items are all good choices for this image-conscious sign. Leos love drama, and enjoy presents that involve a bit of flair. Opera tickets, gold jewelry or animal print lingerie are right up this cat's alley. Leos also love to gamble, so a sheaf of lottery tickets or a weekend getaway to the casino could make them purr with delight. When shopping for clothing, remember that Lions have a special affinity for red, gold and purple.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Virgins love practical gifts...so avoid dust-catching baubles. A bread-making machine or a power drill would be equally welcome. These folks are also known to pride themselves on their impeccable appearance. Scented soaps, lotions and shampoos made by an earth-friendly company might be just the ticket. Virgos are also incredibly organized and might appreciate a good watch or a leather-bound date book. Or try a health-conscious basket of organic foodstuffs.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)
Librans have a special affinity for music, and always appreciate a good CD to add to their voluminous collection. If you want to do something really special for a Libran friend, splurge on a two concert tickets – this sign hates to do anything alone. Born beneath the sign of the scales, they also need plenty of balance in their lives, so a pair of candlesticks or bookends might appeal. If you're still stumped for ideas, have a lavish bouquet of red roses delivered accompanied by a loving handwritten note.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
Scorpions are secretive by nature and enjoy gifts that obscure their appearance in some way. A pair of designer sunglasses, a filmy scarf or a slouchy hat are all great choices for this sign. These mystery-lovers also enjoy moody, atmospheric stories. A collection of film noirs on DVD are sure to go over well with your favorite Scorpion. The rumors concerning this sign's sexual appetite are happily true, so seductive lingerie would get plenty of use. Since Scorpions also like to get beneath the surface; a gift certificate for a deep-cleansing facial will be appreciated.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
As far as Archers are concerned, half the fun of getting gifts is ripping them open! If Sag doesn't like a present, though, he or she will tell you outright. Avoid awkward scenes this holiday season by giving this outdoor enthusiast some camping equipment. Hiking boots or a water-proof parka would also be appropriate. These animal lovers adore any gift associated with their pets. A calendar filled with pictures of dogs or horses is sure to elicit a big smile. Finally, you can always feed this sign's wanderlust with a comprehensive atlas.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
Career-oriented Capricorn always enjoys gifts that will boost their job status. A leather laptop carrier or monogrammed briefcase would be welcome. Contrary to popular belief, though, Goats aren't all work and no play. This sign is blessed with a wicked sense of humor, so try the BBC's "The Office" series on DVD. Capricorns also love luxurious presents they'd never buy for themselves, like a silk bathrobe.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
You never know what this unpredictable sign will be doing from moment to moment – one week it's skydiving and the next it's yoga! Still, this quirky sign always appreciates technological gadgets, whether it's an all-region DVD player or an iPod Nano. If you'd like to choose something a little more personal, why not make a photo album detailing all of your exploits with the Water-Bearer? Aquarius may not show it, but they harbor a special fondness for their friends. Still stumped for ideas? A basket filled with brand new socks is both weird and practical enough for this sign, which rules the ankles.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
These mystics love gifts of all kinds, but especially ones that help them escape the harsh realities of life. A bottle of champagne, a kaleidoscope or a book of fairy tales will appeal to your Fishy friends. And because Pisces is a Water sign, it's a good bet they'll appreciate bath salts, foaming cleansers and shower gels. If you'd like to give something really special, a digital camera will make a bit hit with this natural-born photographer. Looking for a romantic gift? Choose a gilt-edged volume of love poetry.

Cheers!

Are the Post Secret books good gifts?

Wes M

I'm thinking of buying them as Christmas presents but I don't know if that's the right thing.

Answer
I think that the Post Secret books are wonderful. But whether it's a good gift or not all depends on who you are giving it to. A Post Secret book would be a bad gift for my mom, but an awesome gift for my best friend. "Know your audience." :P

What are post earrings?

Ink

Hi, I just got my ears pierced today and I was just wondering what post-style earrings are. The pamphlet that they gave me said that I have to leave my piercing studs in for six weeks and then to wear post-style earrings for the following six months. I was just wondering what the heck those are? I've checked other Yahoo Answers and there have been many different answers. Some of the most popular ones are post-style earrings are studs or they're all earrings except for clip on...I really don't know which one to believe. Please don't answer this unless you know what you're talking about. I don't want my ears to get screwed up becasue I took advice from some person I don't know.
Oh, I have these two pairs of earrings that I got as a gift for graduation. one is a hoop but it is lightweigtht and has a straight stick and a backing that snaps shut. The other pair is a dangly pair with a hook (I don't think that these are post-style but the hoops might be). Please help me

Answer
Post earrings are studs. It means no hoop or clipons. The reason for this is because hoop earrings have a smaller post...the part of the earring that goes through your ear...than a stud. You want your ears to have the post that way they don't close up smaller. Once your ears have completely healed...six months...you can wear hoops b/c you won't have to worry about your earring holes closing up. If you were to wear hoops before the six months it's possible for your earring holes to close to the size of the hoops and it would be hard to put a stud/post back in. Dangling earrings are okay as long as they have the post that goes through your ears. If you want to take a day and wear your hoops it should be fine, but try and remember to put the post/studs back in as soon as possible so the hole doesn't close. Hope this helps!
