My brother just got engaged. There is an engagement party in a couple weeks for the immediate families. Most of us (me, my husband and 2 kids included) are standing up in the wedding. I have never been to an engagement party. Are you supposed to bring a gift? If so, what kind of gift is good for an engagement party?
Answer
No gifts are required nor expected for an engagement party!! This is asked at least twice a week. Answer stays the same. An engagement party is simply for everyone to congratulate the couple, to learn about wedding details such as date and place, and when one of them is from out of town, a time to meet all the relatives/friends/close neighbours. If you are the type of person who hates showing up empty-handed, do as you would for a hostess gift - flowers, bottle of wine, box of candy.

What are traditional engagement gifts?

My boyfriend and I got engaged at the weekened :) YAY! We were wondering what are the traditional engagement gifts given to the happy couple?
Thanks!
Truthfully we weren't expecting any gifts!! We've been asked by family members what we would like as an engagement gift
Answer
There is no such thing as a "traditional" engagement gift, as engagements are not gift giving occasions. Sometimes people will choose to give gifts at an engagement party (I usually like to bring a nice bottle of wine) but they are not required.
