I am from Colorado and i am going on a trip to South Africa, although i am clueless to what i should give my host family. It's a family of 5, one adult one 17 year old boy and 3 little girls. They are from a royal family so i am assuming that they must have quite some money. I want it to be something that they can remember me and also something that is traditionally from the U.S. or Colorado
Answer
A cookbook of local dishes
Sprts caps are always popular or t shirts, especially baseball and american football
A couple of USA-themed tennis balls (hostdog) or a baseball
Fridge magnet with some USA or Colorado logo or if you can have one made with your picture on it
American jelly beans
A coffee-table book with aerial photos from your part of the world
Maple syrup and a mix for pancakes
chocolate concoctions from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
A fun bumper sticker
Postcards of your area
I do not think jerky is a good idea . . . south africans have their own version of dried meat, called biltong, which is made with totally different spices.
Teddy bears or little necklaces for the girls
Or for some fun, a pack of instant snow . . . http://www.madeincolorado.com/Unusual-Gifts/Colorado-Instant-Snow-Packet/flypage.tpl.html

South Africa Wins...................?
cchhaa
Firstly i really want to say, brilliant effort by both the teams and it has been one of the best test matches I have seen.
Now, SA did really well in chasing the target, got 2 hundreds aswell.
Australia had chances, and maybe they could have pulled off by claiming a few early wickets too.
All in all, great display by both teams
Comments please.:)
Answer
Yes, absolutely brilliant stuff from South Africa. Two batsman of top class got centuries & the rest all chipped in with half centuries to acheive the total. With a team effort like that they deserved to win. So, congratualations to SA for a brilliant win. Greame Smith has really come of age as a batsman as well as a leader. He really stole the show & laid the platform for what was a brilliant run-chase. Without a captain's knock like that there was absolutely no way South Africa could have thought of chasing it down. Again sensational inningns from AB Devilliers too. This man cant do anything wrong at the moment. Catches, runs everything...Sometimes as a fan of cricket you just have to appreciate that a team played brilliantly & applaud them & that's what I did.
As for Australia, its back to the drawing board. They need to figure out why they couldnt defend 414. I for one felt that they bowled well but somehow they werent lucky to get wickets specially Brett. But all credit to South Africa, they didnt allow them to take wickets. It was more a case of brilliant batting with application than a case of bowler's not bowling well. Australia also need to figure out why some their batsmen are not showing enough application & resolve to stay at the wicket. I think Ian Chappel rightly pointed out during commentary that there were no demons in the track & some wickets were simply gifted away. Lets face it, Australia had to depend on Brad Haddin to get a 94 to push the lead upto 414. The question is why were the top 5 or 6 gone before even 200 was reached. Its happened in the first innings & it happened again. Everyone needed to contribute a little bit with the bat like SA did.
I think its time for Hayden to go. The Australian selectors were very strict earlier but they have softened up now. Remember how they got rid of Mark Waugh when he wasnt performing. Same needs to be done now.
The next is at MCG. Australia have an awesome record there. Hopefully they will come out stronger & square the series. I am keeping my fingers crossed, untill then lets celebrate christmas instead of whinning about a defeat.
