Its my dads 50th coming up soon, and my brother and I are trying to think of a nice gift to get him, something special. we have about 40-60 pounds to spend. Any ideas? He likes sport, but doesn't need tickets to watch it live, he likes his garden, cycling, and clothes.

Best 50th Birthday Celebrations and/or Gifts?

So my mother is turning the big 50 and is very deserving of a big bash. She's still very youthful but has a classic way about her.
I was just wondering what kind of 50th birthday bash would you throw you're mother and/or what special gift would you give? Maybe that would give us some ideas........ :)
Okay, so I'm thinking something light and funny while not cheesy or overdone. i.e. She's a big Elvis fan but I wouldn't necessarily do an Elvis themed party for her 50th. I just really want to make it memorable....

I had a 60th for my mom at a more upscale restaurant for 33 friends and family. we had appetizers, dinner, dessert, wine and beer at each table. I decorated all the tables with a vase of flowers, petals scattered down the centers, and candles. we had a pink purple color scheme going (since I didn't want to do any of that tacky Over The Hill crap) of streamers and balloon arrangements. I had a nice candle for party favors for each guest and we did a picture board of her pics throughout her lifetime- she had the best time showing off all her pics to everyone there! I found a Life magazine on ebay form the week she was born and gave that as her gift, I also found a book from that year that told about events and stuff from that time- we had that out for guests to look through. I also had one of those photo frames you autograph and insert a pic from the event in it- all the guests signed it and we took a big group picture before people started to leave. the total cost was $1000- i split the cost with 3 other people and that was our gift to her prettymuch! she had a great time!
