Opinions and etiquette on re-gifting holiday gifts?

Have you ever given someone else a holiday gift that was previously given to you? What guidelines are acceptable for doing so? I have received gift-certificates for stores that I never shop at and have given those away as Christmas presents. What are your personal opinions on this?
Answer
Hey, they were given to you as GIFTS, which means you can use them however you want. If, instead of using the card for yourself (at a store you never frequent), you decide to give it to someone who can use it, that's your perogative. Usually with gift cards, the intent of the giver is for you to get something you want or can use...if you can use those cards to spend less money during the holidays by re-gifting them, then you ARE using the gift how you want to (no different than if the original gift giver gave you cash). I see nothing wrong with it at all! Same thing btw for other gifts that would otherwise sit in a closet...if you know someone who would appreciate and use the item vs. leaving it sit in a closet, then by all means, re-gift it!! It is yours to give! Merry Christmas!
